Embracing Our Physicality

Author: Andrea Hess

There seems to be a prevailing misconception that the goal of living spiritually is to transcend the physical. It is tempting to think that, if we can truly embrace a spiritual path, the pesky little details of paying the mortgage and doing the laundry will simply go away.

It is not by accident that your Soul ended up in your physical body. The integration of Spirit and physicality is a complicated, carefully orchestrated process. Your Soul has an excellent reason to be here, within this physical dimension. Our physical reality is where we express ourselves as Creators. Consciously or not, we have the privilege of connecting to our Divine spark by exercising our ability to create every aspect of our lives.

Our physical circumstances can teach us so much about ourselves. Our life circumstances act as a mirror, a measure of our awareness and level of consciousness that we bring to the Creation process.

For example, when we feel fulfilled in an area of our life, such as our career, we know that we have achieved an alignment between who we are at Soul level, and who we are in our physical reality. We can then take the characteristics that are most satisfying to us from our career to other aspects of our lives.

Similarly, if we feel great dissatisfaction, such as being unhappy in a relationship, we can recognize the need to bring greater levels of consciousness to this aspect of our lives. When things aren't going well, there is usually a misalignment between who we are at Soul level, and our physical circumstances.

We then have the unique opportunity to create alignment. We can work with our conscious intent to create the life circumstances that truly reflect who we are. And when we have brought fulfillment and satisfaction to an area of our lives where before there was only frustration, we recognize how truly empowered we are as Creators. Over time, we can identify the specific process we use to create consciously.

All this seems pretty obvious, right? But when we apply these elements to the mundane, everyday details of our lives, everything that presents itself can be an opportunity to increase awareness and consciousness. We can know ourselves at the spiritual level by looking at what presents itself in the physical.

Suddenly, those pesky little details can become enormous growth opportunities. Does money seem suddenly scarce this month? Explore what thoughts and beliefs can have caused this lack of abundance. Can't seem to shed those extra ten pounds? Discover what else you may be holding on to. Did all your errands run smoothly and take half the time you expected? Perhaps you've cultivated a particularly positive attitude today. Can't find a parking spot? Look at what your frame of mind was when you left the house. Did you suddenly receive a sudden inflow of clients into your business? Perhaps you've shifted the level of consciousness in your work.

Our life circumstances are a treasure trove of information about our internal state of being. Every moment we experience is a snapshot of the energy we sent out into the Universe just a little while ago. General attitudes and beliefs reflect themselves in the overall aspects of our lives, such as career, relationships, family, etc. The smaller, day-to-day details can manifest themselves almost immediately. Rather than trying to transcend the physical side of life, embrace it as the wealth of learning opportunities that it presents. Our physicality is a great gift that allows us to experience the joy of Creating, with conscious awareness and intent.
